Hi Boys
and Girls –
On Thursday May 22, 2003, Miss Laurie and I got to pay a visit to one of the coolest schools we have ever seen. The Stephen Foster “Lightning Bolts”. For us, this was a unique experience, today we saw a group of human adults and children that were proud of their school and anxious to learn, that makes it a special treat for us. Usually, we type some things and put up some pictures, with this school, there was so much for us to see and learn, that I’m just going to show you the pictures and try and share a bit about our visit. If you’re a Stephen Foster student, I hope you enjoy these pictures, but this time, I’m going to write this page, for all those other kids around the country that will see this. I want to share how really “Gr-r-reat” your school is with everybody!
Our new friend Julie Groom at Sam’s Club in Long Beach arranged our visit to Stephen Foster Elementary. Julie came out and shared the morning with us, you’ll see a picture of her later on this page. After the bell rang, the students went in, took attendance than came out to watch the inflation. Grades K – 3 were on one side of the Kellogg Assault Commander Chase Truck with 4 – 6 on the other side. When the balloon stood up, there was a bunch of excited screams with gigantic smiles...
We wouldn’t have had much luck putting the balloon
up if our special new friend “Mike” wouldn’t have been there to help. Mike
helped us get the truck in, the balloon unloaded and ready to fly ... isn’t
it fun to make new friends???
Once we got the balloon inflated, everyone had a
chance to come and get a close look at the basket, and, up, inside the
balloon ... I wonder what was holding it up??? Was it magic???
A lot of pictures got taken too. Here is a picture of Mrs. Gaines sitting in the basket with me. Even though we didn’t get to fly anywhere, she was a fantastic passenger!
Its always fun to get help from a good co-pilot. He shot that ball of fire right straight into the top of the balloon. (And he wasn’t scared either)
What a great looking bunch of kids ! All of
them eager to help !!! What a treat for us to have such enthusiastic
helpers.
When we took the balloon down, the “Kinder-Kids”
helped squish the air out of our big hot air balloon, then our special
6th grade helpers worked as a team to put the balloon back in
its bag.
Miss Laurie was so excited at all the great help
we got, she couldn’t help but let out a great big “Woo Hoo” !
We just can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed sharing a morning with
these students ! The picture above and right, is our 6th
grade balloon crew.
With the balloon all packed up and put away, we got a chance to go inside the school and have an assembly with all the students and teachers. We talked about the history of balloons and then answered some questions about ballooning in general. When we finished, all the kids promised to eat a good breakfast before coming to school, so that they would come ready to learn.
One of the best schools we’ve ever visited and we have Miss Julie Groom, from Sam’s Club # 6613 (on the left) and Mrs. Nancy Gaines, Principal of Stephen Foster (on the right) to thank for making our day so special!!! School Facts: Stephen Foster Elementary Lakewood,
California

The only school we’ve ever visited that had a rose garden. It was stunning. |
